Fish Farming is a fast growing business in Nigeria; the growth of the business was catapulted in 2006 during the bird flu era where many poultry farmers moved to fish farming. The situation is also being helped by the lower capital required to start-up the business.
The business however faces a singular challenge; the dependence of fish farmers on imported fish feed!
Imported fish feed has been preferred by fish farmers because of their floating nature which reduces wastage and therefore cost; it is equally believed that imported feed has the right quality that meets the growth requirement of Africa Catfish.
Delay at the port however, often leads to scarcity and frustration of farmers. Farmers get their feed a minimum of 3 months after production taking into consideration shipment and delays at the port; which implies freshness is not guaranteed.
In solving the challenge of these farmers and contributing our quota to the development/sustenance of the fish farming industry; Grand Cereals & Oil Mills Limited, a subsidiary of uac of Nigeria plc now produces a floating fish feed, the quality of which based on experiment on our demonstration farm can compete with the imported fish feed. The brand name is Vital Fish Feed.
Beyond containing the nutrients required for the optimum growth of catfish, Vital Fish Feed comes very affordable!
